Biography
Zach began his career at Dickson Electric System (DES) in April 2004, shortly after completing his service as a Nuclear Biological Chemical Defense Specialist in the United States Marine Corps, where he achieved the rank of Sergeant. He started as an Apprentice Lineman and worked his way up to Journeyman Lineman before transitioning into substation operations in 2013.
In 2016, Zach was promoted to Substation Maintenance Supervisor, where he oversaw the monitoring, maintenance, and operations of eight electrical distribution substations serving more than 35,000 customers across Middle Tennessee.
Today, Zach uses his extensive experience in the electric utility industry as a Safety Consultant, helping organizations strengthen their safety culture, reduce risk, and protect the lives of lineworkers in the field.
A devoted husband and father of four, Zach credits both his family and his lineman brotherhood for their unwavering support and encouragement throughout his recovery from a life-changing accident.

On August 25, 2017, I experienced an accident at work that resulted in second and third-degree burns from an arc flash caused by a substation breaker. I spent 22 days in the ICU at Vanderbilt Trauma Burn Center and underwent several surgeries, including skin grafts on my right forearm and eyelids.

As a line wife, you are always aware of the potential dangers of the job. You kiss your lineman goodbye each morning and welcome him back home in the evening, never thinking that he might not return. However, on August 25, 2017, I was confronted with that harsh reality. Zach sustained serious injuries from an arc flash and went through countless procedures. I transitioned from being just a wife to becoming an advocate and caretaker for my husband. Someone had to speak on his behalf when he couldn't. It's a challenging position to be in, especially with kids at home.
